You've
Heard of It But Do You Know
What Is Shareware?
ShareWare is software you get to try out and pass around. You then decide if you like it and if you would like to keep it. If you keep shareware, you are obliged to pay a fee to the author of the program. These fees can be as cheap as a link from your site to the author's site to a few hundred dollars. There are many types of fees, one author only asked for you to care for other people for one day (Careware)! There's also Stampware for which the author wants you to send him a stamp. Some shareware programs time out (see demos). Freeware? Freeware is just that free! Some shareware programs are really just about free, too. Demos? Demos are great. Many well known software companies offer demos of their latest releases. These are great because programs typically cost a lot of money and with a demo you get to test drive before you buy. That way you don't have to waste your money on a program you really can't use. Demos generally have either a date time out or a number of uses time out. The date timing begins when you first try the program and can be as short as 10 days or as long as 60 days. The number of uses for 'use time outs' are usually for 30 tries. Did you know: You can download the latest drivers for your hardware and peripherals by visiting your product's homepage. Or by visiting shareware sites. Here are a few. Drivers HQ Winsite Archive |
