I contracted a computer virus
once. Thankfully, it was not one of those really destructive viruses.
As a matter of fact, had I not known more about how my computer acts, I
probably wouldn't have noticed it. It just made my computer run funny,
like when your car's not running right. I got it from a floppy.
One friend of mine, picked up a virus that wouldn't let her screen saver
work. But the worst I know of is the virus that destroyed the bios
of another friend's computer. My friends viruses came from the web.
A new breed of viruses are called
worms. Usually they won't destroy things but will attach themselves to
all your emails as you mail them.
Some things to do:
Be careful about what you download.
Only download files and programs from sites you trust.
Never download attachments to your
e-mail from people you don't know.
Get an anti-virus software like McAfee,
Norton, PC-cillin or Sophos. You
can download demos of their software by clicking on their names above.
Norton has a free version of their
anti-virus software. Click
here to go to Nonags where you can download it.
Make sure you keep the virus data
files for your software up to date. Check out your software mfgr's
website for these updates.
Make sure you scan, scan, scan.
You really shouldn't even trust that new floppy you just put in your a:
drive.
